About Reiki

🌟 What Is Reiki Really? A Down-to-Earth Explanation for the Spiritually Curious

Let’s get something cleared up right away: Reiki isn’t woo-woo magic or tied to any religion—it’s simply a natural, gentle, and beautiful way of working with energy. It's like a spiritual tune-up, using universal energy to support healing, balance, and peace in our minds, bodies, and spirits.

πŸ’« So, What Is Reiki?

The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words:

  • Rei = Universal

  • Ki = Life Force Energy

Put together, Reiki means Universal Life Force Energy—the same life-giving energy that flows through everything.

When I give Reiki—whether in person or remotely—I’m not giving you my energy. I’m simply acting as a channel, directing that universal energy through me and to you (or your pet, your plant, your situation—you name it!). I was attuned by a Reiki Master, which means I was taught how to access this energy, shown sacred symbols, and empowered to channel Reiki in an intentional way.

πŸ™ Is Reiki a Religion?

Nope. Reiki is not religious, and it doesn't conflict with any belief system. People from all walks of life benefit from Reiki. You don't have to “believe” in it for it to work—it just does what it does: heals, soothes, and aligns.

πŸ’– How Reiki Works

Reiki always flows where it’s needed most, even if the person receiving it isn’t exactly sure what’s going on. That’s part of its beauty. It can help with the physical body, emotional imbalances, spiritual disconnection, or even tough life situations. Reiki can even transcend time and space, which is why distance sessions are just as powerful as in-person ones.

It’s a gentle, non-invasive way to:

  • Reduce stress

  • Promote relaxation

  • Support healing and well-being
It complements traditional medicine, but is never a replacement for professional healthcare. Think of it as supportive care for the whole self.

Note: Healing doesn't always mean “curing.” Sometimes it means easing pain, restoring peace of mind, or even supporting a peaceful transition for someone nearing the end of life.

πŸ’†‍♀️ What Happens During a Reiki Session?

In-person sessions involve quiet music, maybe some incense or candles, and gentle hand placements over the body (or slightly above it—touch is optional). I also use Reiki symbols to direct and amplify the energy during the session.

For remote Reiki, I use what’s called the Surrogate Method. Yep—it involves a stand-in for you (in my case, a special teddy bear that’s only used for this purpose!). I focus on your name, your location, and your intention (sometimes a photo helps), and then I do the full session as if you were there in front of me. The energy is sent directly to you, and it arrives when you're open to receiving it—even if you're just going about your day.

Some people feel it instantly; others may not notice until later—like when they sleep better, think more clearly, or feel a surprising ease in their body or emotions.

The only thing you need to do? Be open to receiving it. That’s it.

πŸ’¬ Feedback Is Always Welcome!

One of the best parts of in-person Reiki is seeing someone visibly relax or watching their posture shift when the pain eases. With remote Reiki, I don’t get to see that—so if you’ve had a session and want to share how it felt or what shifted for you, I’d love to hear it. It’s a beautiful confirmation of the work being done.

πŸ§ͺ For the Science Lovers…

If you’re someone who likes the “how does this work?” behind the scenes—good news: science is catching up.

  • Back in the 1930s, researcher Harold Saxon Burr found that changes in the body’s energy field could be detected before physical symptoms appeared.

  • In the 1980s, Dr. J. Zimmerman discovered that Reiki and other energy practices emit pulsating biomagnetic fields from the practitioner’s hands. These fields naturally cycle through healing frequencies that help stimulate the body’s ability to heal.
